Buying an Oven : In gas appliances, look for blue flames; yellow flames indicate the gas is burning inefficiently and an adjustment may be needed. Consult your manufacturer or your local utility.


Kitchen Tip : Match the size of the pan to the heating element; more heat will get to the pan and less will be lost to the surrounding air or found by the pan handle! A 6-inch pan on an 8-inch burner will waste over 40 percent of the energy.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet invented by Dr. arthur agatston which emphasizes that one should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Agatston invented his dietary regime for people who have heart disease, as a consequence of his analysis of scientific studies completed on other weight loss regimes.
Examples of good foods include, lean cuts of beef, turkey breast, seafood, mozzarella cheese, almonds, lowfat yoghurt and certain vegetables, such as lentils, cauliflower and water chestnuts.

Ingredients And Procedures

1 c Butter or Oil

2 c Sugar

4 Eggs - beaten well

2 ts Baking Soda

6 Bananas - mashed (or 7)

1/2 c Chopped Macadamia Nuts

2 1/2 c Sifted All-Purpose Flour

1 ts Salt

Grease 2 large loaf pans or 5 small one. Cream the butter with the sugar. Add the eggs and beat well. Add the mashed bananas, stirring to blend. In a separate bowl sift together the dry ingredients. Fold the dry ingredients into the batter, mixing well. Add the macadamia nuts. Pour the batter into the pans. Bake in a 350" oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until done. For muffins, fill 12 muffin cups 3/4 full and bake in a 350" oven for 35 to 45 minutes. Makes 2 large loaves, 5 small loaves, or 12 large muffins.
